COVID-19 booster vaccine update for General Practice. In point form:
Patient is eligible for a COVID-19 booster dose if:
- 18 years and older, and
- have had the second dose of COVID-19 vaccination at least 6 months ago.
Rules:
- Booster vaccine is NOT compulsory for any category of patients.
- The Comirnaty (Pfizer) vaccine is approved by the TGA and recommended by ATAGI as a COVID-19 booster dose.
- Patient can have AstraZeneca as a booster if:
- a. had 2 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine already. or
- b. cannot have Pfizer for medical reasons.
- GPs are to bill item 93644 for the booster vaccination. This is the same item as for the second dose of COVID-19 vaccination.
ATAGI is not currently recommending booster doses for:
- people aged 12 to 17 years
- people who are severely immunocompromised and have already had a third dose.
