Medicare has introduced a new rule for Telehealth. GPs cannot bill more than 30 Telehealth consultations in one day.
The rule came into force on 1 January 2022.
The 30/20 rule means that if any GP bills 30 or more telehealth consultations per day for 20 days in any 12 months period, he/she will be referred to PSR. 20 days can be in a row or spread over some period of time.
More information on how Medicare counts the services is here.
PSR is Professional Services Review. It is sort of Medicare Court.
There is an existing prescribed pattern of practice (80/20 rule) that applies to all GP consultation types from 1 January 2022. Any GP who provides more than a
combined 80 services by face-to-face, video or telephone on 20 or more days in a 12 month period will be referred to the Professional Services Review. (More on 80/20 rule here).
