Mamu Health Service Limited is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organization providing holistic health care services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Ravenshoe, Mt Garnet & Innisfail— areas renowned for their lush regions of mountain pastures and unspoiled World Heritage rainforest.

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced General Practitioner to join our Ravenshoe & Innisfail clinic and make an invaluable contribution to the local community. Your primary objective will be to provide culturally appropriate and comprehensive primary health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

Provide day-to-day primary care services, including consultations, health checks, immunizations, wound care, examinations, medical prescriptions, administration of local anesthetics, management of acute medical/surgical emergencies as required, minor surgical procedures, prenatal and postnatal care and mental health referrals
Conduct case conferences with relevant stakeholders to ensure efficient coordination and collaboration in quality care for clients
Maintain professional standards of practice, in addition to compliance with RACGP medical record-keeping standards, accreditation requirements and use of pharmaceuticals
Provide community care, including liaising with community members to encourage local involvement, participate in local events, provide appropriate outreach medical services, advocate for the rights and needs of patients and maintain close working relationships with external health providers and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island communities
General administrative duties, including the assistance of maintaining PIRS (Communicare) in accordance with requirements, maximizing Medicare bulk billing items to meet targets, collecting and reporting on community health data, ensure accurate recording of patient demographics and prepare reports and legal summaries for government departments as needed

Ability and willingness to travel to, and work at all Mamu Health Service work locations and service areas when required
Possess well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with people, particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
Maintain a tidy and clean work area where all equipment and property are respected and handled with care
Exhibits high-level skills in managing time, setting priorities, planning and organizing own work to achieve specific tasks and setting objectives efficiently and effectively within the set timeframe
Possesses or is eager to develop knowledge, understanding and sensitivity towards the social, economic and cultural factors affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s health.
Licenses and requirements:

Vaccination or confirmed non-susceptibility to Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPDs) during employment, including measles, mumps, Rubella (MMR), Varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Pertussis (whooping cough) and Covid-19 Recommended.
Qualification as a General Practitioner
FRACGP/FACRRM Registration
Current registration with APHRA and professional medical indemnity insurance
Current First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain
Advanced Life Support and Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate, or evidence of training.
Current Qld drivers license or the ability to obtain it from another state
