Seven steps to securing a job as an IMG doctor in Australia.
Step 1: Secure a commitment from a medical practice willing to accept an IMG. Here are some tips on that.
Step 2: Preliminary Preparation (Can be done without a job offer):
- Take the OET/English Exam (Minimum pass = B)
- Consider the RACGP Experience Assessment
- Verify qualifications through primary sources
- Clear the AMC Part 1 Multi-Choice Exam
- I highly recommend completing the AMC Part 2 Clinical Exam.
Step 3: PESCI Interview (Requires a job offer):
- Submit PESCI Application
- Complete necessary educational certificates and Australian observership
- Attend PESCI Interview
- Documents required: Current CV, Certified Copy of Passport, AMC Results Documents, OET/English Exam Results Certificate, GP Contract, Position Description.
Step 4: Preliminary Immigration:
- Submit VISA Nomination
- Documents required: Certified Copy of Passport, Letter of support from employer, and various supporting documents.
Step 5: AHPRA Registration:
- Submit Application
- Receive ‘Approved In Principle’ Registration
- Present in person to AHPRA for final approval (no appointment required)
- Documents required: Current CV, Certified Copy of Passport, Certified Copy of Primary Medical Degree, Evidence of Internship, Evidence of Additional Training, Certificate of Registration Status, AMC Results Documents, OET/English Exam Results Certificate, RACGP Experience Assessment (recommended), Letter of Offer, GP Contract, Position Description, Supervised Practice Plan.
Step 6: Immigration Part 2 (Requires AHPRA registration approval):
- Submit VISA Application
- Documents required: Various forms and additional requirements such as Health Declaration, Immunisation Record, International Criminal History Check, etc.
