How to minimise the risk of being audited?

The only way to minimise the risk of being audited is to follow the rules and guidelines and not engage in practices that deemed to be suspicious by Medicare.

  • The worst thing that you can do is provide services to more than 80 patients a day on 20 days within 12 months period- this is a 100% guarantee of Medicare audit. This audit has almost no defence unless you work in some very rural place and there were suddenly no doctors available, or the area was subject to some sort of disaster etc. Demand for services from patients at an ordinary suburban practice will not be a defence to the audit.
